American BeautyAmerican Beauty Made in the USA

Every summer when stores all start displaying red, white and blue swag, decor and merchandise, I get nostalgic and think about some of my favorite Fourth of July parties.  Memories of BBQ, fireworks and friends dance through my mind.

Then, I almost always remember what I was wearing, from my dress to my lipstick.

There is something about a holiday weekend that calls for a certain dress code, or fashion.  Around Fourth of July, we obviously reach for our red, white and blue attire.  The funny thing is, a lot of our clothes are not actually made in the USA.  Go figure.

With this knowledge, I thought I would apply it to my area of expertise: beauty products.  Boy, was I shocked to go through my personal makeup stash and find that not a whole lot of what I use on my face every day is American made.  Luckily, almost every product I own said it’s place of origin right there on the label.  If you’re not sure about your beauty products, turn the bottle around and see for yourself.

Since I keep my personal makeup stash pretty light, I chose my top 5 American-made beauty products from that stash because it was honestly difficult to find any more.

Without further ado, here are those 5 American-made skincare and cosmetics that I simply can’t live without:

  1. Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Masque
  2. Urban Decay Naked palette (although it’s assembled in the Dominican Republic and the brush comes from China)
  3. Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm (some components made elsewhere)
  4. theBalm Mary-Lou Manizer highlighting powder
  5. Dr. Brandt Needles No More

Dermalogica’s Skin Hydrating Masque works great as a masque (obviously), but I love it for an everyday serum too.  I put it on under my moisturizer to get that added boost of cross-linked hyaluronic acid to keep moisture locked in my dry skin.  It’s great for saggy, aging and dull skin as well!  Even better, it’s made in their Carson, CA headquarters, making it my favorite made in the USA product.

Urban Decay’s Naked Palette is an awesome palette to have on hand at any time.  It allows for a natural, daytime eye makeup application, or a dramatic girls-night-out look.  Even though the brush comes from China, I still like this American-made palette for the range of colors you get at the pricepoint.  Plus, there isn’t a lot of fallout from these shadows which I respect as a makeup artist.

Revlon’s Colorburst Matte Balms are great in any shade.  I wore Sultry on my wedding day and loved it.  Plus, you just can’t get better than an American-made, good red lipstick like Revlon’s Colorburst Matte Balm in Standout.

theBalms’ Mary-Lou Manizer highlighting powder not only has a super cute name, but it works well too.  Anywhere you need a little glow, brush on Mary Lou and you’ll be set.  theBalm is manufactured in San Fransisco, CA, so it’s another great America-made beauty product.

Finally, Dr. Brandt’s Needles No More is a good, quick fix to those pesky crow’s feet or the 11’s in the middle of your forehead.  While it doesn’t actually work as well as Botox, it’s a much cheaper alternative that works in a timely manner.

Now that wraps up my Made in America beauty faves.  Let me know your favorite USA made beauty products!
Cheers!
